Aguascalientes and Wine

Aguascalientes has the ideal climate and altitude for grape cultivation. Since the state’s founding in 1575, vineyards have flourished, making it the second-largest grape producer in Mexico.

The 1950s and 1960s marked the golden era of Aguascalientes’ wine industry. Unfortunately, by the 1980s, it began to decline. The great news is that since 2005, winemaking has resurged with renewed strength, producing labels that showcase varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Parellada, Blanc de Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Syrah, Mourvèdre, Nebbiolo, Garnacha Blanca, Touriga Nacional, Tempranillo, and more.

Today, Aguascalientes is home to 18 wineries and over 205 hectares of vineyards, many of which welcome visitors with unique wine tourism experiences.
