History and Roots of Tepotzotlán

Tepotzotlán, a town with pre-Hispanic roots, owes its name to the Nahuatl word Tepozohco-tlán, which means “place on the hill of copper.” Its history stretches back long before the arrival of the Spanish, when the Otomi people populated the region, leaving an enduring cultural influence.
