What to Do in Downtown San Luis Potosí
The city center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. Wander through its corners and take in its unmatched beauty.
Plaza de Armas
This is the main square and home to the first parish church. Here you’ll find the Metropolitan Cathedral, showcasing a baroque style with towers built in different eras—similar in design but distinct in color. Nearby, you’ll also see the Municipal Palace, the Legislative Congress building, and an octagonal kiosk.
Plaza del Carmen
The largest square in the capital, Plaza del Carmen is home to the majestic Templo del Carmen with its baroque façade, the Teatro de la Paz, and the National Mask Museum. Take time to stroll and admire its charm.

Plaza Fundadores
Just a block away from Plaza de Armas, Plaza Fundadores is a historic monument recognized by Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History. Its highlight is the bronze statue of Saint Louis, King of France, standing three meters tall and weighing about 300 kilos.
Basilica of our Lady of Guadalupe
Also listed as a historic monument by the INAH, this sanctuary was granted the title of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II.
El Tangamanga Park
One of the city’s treasures, Tangamanga is the second-largest urban park in Mexico, after Chapultepec in Mexico City. Often compared to New York’s Central Park, it’s the perfect spot for sports, leisure, or simply unwinding in nature.
National Mask Museum
Located in the heart of the city, across from Teatro de la Paz, this unique museum showcases an extraordinary collection of masks from Mexico’s main mask-making regions, along with pieces from Bulgaria and Indonesia. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission: 20 MXN, approximately.

Museum of Contemporary Art
A must for art lovers, this neoclassical building hosts five exhibition halls dedicated to showcasing, preserving, and promoting contemporary art. It also features two terraces for cultural activities. Hours: Tuesday–Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Admission: 20 MXN, approximately. (10 MXN for seniors, teachers, students, and children). Free on Sundays.
