How to spend 48 hours in Monterrey with the whole family

Day 1: Family fun at Parque Fundidora

The perfect place to begin is Parque Fundidora, one of Monterrey's most beloved public spaces. Admission is free, and the park welcomes visitors daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. For those arriving by car, parking is available for approximately MXN 25 per hour or MXN 100 for the day.

Spend the morning wandering through landscaped gardens, tranquil lakes, and walking paths before visiting Horno 3 Steel Museum (Museo del Acero Horno 3), an interactive museum housed inside a former blast furnace. Through engaging science and technology exhibits, visitors of all ages can explore the city's industrial heritage in an immersive way. From there, board a boat along the Santa Lucía Riverwalk (Paseo Santa Lucía), a scenic canal connecting Parque Fundidora to Monterrey's Historic Center. The ride, which costs approximately MXN 60, passes colorful murals, fountains, and cultural landmarks, offering a relaxing perspective of the city.

In the afternoon, continue to Barrio Antiguo, Monterrey's charming historic district, where cobblestone streets, independent cafés, art galleries, and boutique shops invite visitors to slow down and explore at their own pace. It's also the perfect opportunity to visit MARCO (Museum of Contemporary Art Monterrey), one of Latin America's leading contemporary art museums.

As evening falls, indulge in Monterrey's signature flavors with traditional dishes such as cabrito (roasted kid goat) or machacado con huevo, served in one of the neighborhood's renowned restaurants. Alternatively, return to Camino Real Fashion Drive and enjoy one of its family-friendly dining options without venturing far from your hotel.

Day 2: Nature, scenic views, and family adventures

Begin your second day surrounded by nature at Chipinque Ecological Park, where scenic hiking trails wind through the Sierra Madre mountains and reward visitors with breathtaking views of the iconic Cerro de la Silla. Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and plenty of water are recommended for an enjoyable morning outdoors.

Another wonderful alternative is La Estanzuela Natural Park, a peaceful reserve known for its forested trails, crystal-clear streams, and small waterfalls that provide a refreshing escape from the city.

Around midday, make your way to the Obispado Lookout, home to one of Monterrey's most spectacular panoramic viewpoints and a must for photographers.

The afternoon is perfect for hands-on family fun at KidZania Monterrey, an interactive miniature city where children—and often adults as well—can step into real-world professions through immersive role-playing experiences.

Designed for visitors ages 1 to 16, KidZania features more than 70 interactive activities. Admission is complimentary for children under two years old. Tickets cost approximately MXN 205 for children ages two and three, MXN 449 for children ages four to sixteen, and around MXN 200 for adults.

Another excellent family option is La Pastora Zoo, open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is approximately MXN 60 for adults and MXN 30 for children.
