Mexico is packed with incredible places to explore—from stunning beaches to charming Pueblos Mágicos that captivate both locals and travelers from around the world. Veracruz gives you a taste of both: culture and coast in one trip.

And the best part? You don’t have to wait for a long vacation. Plan a quick weekend escape and soak up everything this historic port city has to offer. Here’s how to make the most of 48 hours in Veracruz.

1. History Tour

If you love traveling through the lens of history, stay in town and explore its cultural gems. Start in La Antigua, where you’ll find the Casa de Cabildo, ruins of Hernán Cortés’ house, and the very first Catholic church in Mexico.

Another must is the San Juan de Ulúa Fortress, once one of the most important strongholds in the region. Today, it’s a museum where you’ll walk through centuries of stories (and snap some amazing photos).

Don’t miss the former home of Mexico’s beloved composer Agustín Lara, filled with documents, clothes, and personal items of the Flaco de Oro.

While you’re at it, stroll the Historic Center, check out Plaza Banderas, the Municipal Palace, Plaza de Armas, the Church of Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana, the Malecón boardwalk, and the Baluarte de Santiago.

2. Beach Tour

If the ocean is calling, Veracruz has plenty of beaches to dive into. Pack your swimsuit, sunscreen, and shades, and head to:

  • Playa Mocambo – Calm waters perfect for swimming and boat rides.
  • Isla de Enmedio – A paradise for eco-tourists, with pristine reefs and a tranquil vibe.
  • Playa Pelícanos – Great for kayaking or paddleboarding, or just relaxing under the sun.

3. Foodie Tour

A trip to Veracruz isn’t complete without indulging in its food scene. Known for fresh seafood and amazing coffee, this city is a foodie’s dream.

Take a food tour through the Historic Center, where you’ll try gorditas and picadas in Barrio de la Huaca, plus the iconic nieve del Güero Güero. As you eat, guides share the stories behind each stop—perfect for strolling and snapping photos of the colorful streets.

For seafood lovers, La Vela (inside Camino Real Veracruz) is a top pick. Their shrimp tacos al pastor, seafood grill, and fried calamari are crowd favorites—and the oceanfront view is unbeatable.

Another must is the legendary Gran Café del Portal, a café with over 300 years of history that once hosted Emperor Maximilian and Empress Carlota. Politicians, artists, and travelers alike still gather here for rich coffee and fresh-baked bread.

4. Where to Stay

Even if you only have a couple of days, Veracruz will leave you wanting more. To make the most of your stay, check into Camino Real Veracruz in Boca del Río.

This beachfront hotel offers spacious rooms—all with ocean views—and a variety of dining options:
La Huerta for international cuisine.

La Vela for fresh, flavorful seafood.

The Pool Bar for a refreshing cocktail by the water.
