Discover the story behind the famous San Marcos Fair in Aguascalientes

The San Marcos Fair is one of the most anticipated events in Aguascalientes, taking place every year between April and May.

It stands as one of Mexico’s most emblematic celebrations. As always, the San Marcos Fair brings together top artists and the most popular musical acts of the moment—and 2026 will be no exception.

How did the San Marcos Fair begin?

Everything started in 1828 as a small regional festival, originally held in November rather than April. By the mid-19th century, the celebration shifted to April as part of the festivities honoring Saint Mark.

Years later, with the arrival of the railway in 1884, the humble town fair began gaining recognition. Its rising popularity led organizers to expand the attractions little by little.

In 1920, the tradition of crowning the Fair’s Queen began. While it may seem like a simple beauty contest, it actually carries great significance—the elected queen is crowned by the state’s governor.

Visitors can enjoy an array of activities—solo, as a couple, or with family—that have evolved throughout the years.

Today, the most iconic events include the Palenque, bullfights, casinos, and, of course, the livestock exhibition, now considered the most important in Latin America. The fair also highlights regional talent, featuring comedians, singers, and dancers.

Musically, the San Marcos Fair is known for hosting the most sought-after artists of the moment, offering something for every taste.

What to Expect at the San Marcos Fair in 2026

From April 18 to May 10, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities including concerts, live shows, a livestock exhibition, bullfights, and nighttime entertainment such as the casino. The fair also features family-friendly experiences, from cultural workshops to artisan markets.

Each year, the fair reinvents itself with a vibrant fusion of flavors, colors, and traditions, along with special guest performances that attract visitors from across Mexico and beyond.
